We’ve welcomed some new faces to our £5, £10 and £20 notes over the last few years – including the new £50 note released in June 2021, which features British mathematician and famed wartime codebreaker Mr Turing.
Will there be new 50 note?
On March 25, 2021, the Bank of England (BoE) first announced when the new £50 note will be released. The newest polymer bank note will be launched into circulation on June 23, 2021, in honour of code-breaker Alan Turing’s birthday.
Who is the new face of the £50 note?
In October 2018, the Bank of England announced that the £50 note would be retained, with a new Series G polymer note replacing the Series F note by the end of 2021. The Bank of England had a committee to consider nominations for the face of the new notes via public consultation. On 15 July 2019 Alan Turing was announced as its new face.
How can you tell the difference between a 50 and a 50 pound note?
Look at the metallic image over the main window. Check the foil is gold and green on the front of the note and silver on the back. Within the two gold foil squares on the front of the note, the image changes between ’50’ and a ‘£’ symbol when the note is tilted. Look for a second, smaller window in the bottom corner of the note.

Who is the woman on the £10 note?
Jane Austen was chosen to appear on the plastic £10 note after a campaign to represent women other than the Queen on English notes. In 2015, a total of 30,000 people nominated 590 famous visual artists for the £20 note, before JMW Turner was selected with the help of focus groups.
