What is the difference between FileMaker and FileMaker Pro?
With FileMaker Pro, you create, design, and manage databases. You can fully utilize all FileMaker features in those databases via your desktop or laptop. These databases can now also be accessed via FileMaker Go on the iPhone and iPod touch, or FileMaker Go for iPad.
Why is FileMaker so expensive?
Filemaker hosting is “more” expensive because fewer people use it, and because Claris has always wanted to remain profitable and has kept its licensing costs very conservative.

FileMaker is easy to learn as far as powerful database tools are concerned. Ask most people who use Filemaker how they learned it. I would bet the vast majority will say they are self-taught. Filemaker’s ease of use and ease to learn is partially why it gets knocked by developers.

Is there a runtime version of FileMaker 16?
With the release of FileMaker 14, FileMaker Inc. has deprecated the ability to create Runtime versions of FileMaker databases. As a result, SortValues and UniqueValues (and indeed all the other new FileMaker 16 text parsing functions) are not supported with Runtimes and will return “?” if evaluated within a Runtime application.
