We already know that new Sonic the Hedgehog games are coming in 2021 and beyond, that the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 film seems to be following the events of Sonic 3 and that we may be getting another Sonic Collection, too. So far, the 30th anniversary is set up to be a good one.

There is no canon (there are several, if you must). And I like it that way. Even if the story would fit somehow, Secret Rings and Black Knight would still be spin-offs because they don’t have “traditional” Sonic gameplay, but are built around a gimmick (the Wiimote).
